Activism: Youth Climate Change Awareness
Take a long walk… Forrest Shearer does it on backcountry runs all the time – “doing something different. Forgoing the use of motorized ways of accessing the mountains (chairlifts, snowmobiles, and helicopters) and using my own two feet and splitboarding.” – originally a surfer from Southern California, this is Forrest’s passion.
Driven by his personal values, Forrest has been encouraging snowboarders everywhere to split their boards and use human power to access the mountains. He has explored hard-to-reach peaks and backcountry runs all over the world. He played a leading role in “My Own Two Feet,” the first splitboarding movie, where he spent a winter snow camping in the Sierras.
Forrest works closely with Protect Our Winters, the Alliance for Climate Education, The Wilderness Society, the Action Sports Environmental Coalition and many other non-profit groups to educate the action sports youth about
climate change solutions. He is featured in the National Academy of Sciences Museum in California in a short film about climate change in the Sierra Nevada. He is one of the key speakers in the new Hot Climate/Cool Athletes campaign that will be touring schools throughout mountain communities. He’s now working on the follow up to “Deeper,” currently titled “Further.” Both films with Jeremy Jones Snowboards and produced by Teton Gravity Research.
Elemental Herbs and Forrest share a like-minded drive for adventure, freedom, fun and education. “The next generation gets it. Change is bound to happen - it’s only a matter of time, especially if we can be the change we want to see in the world.”
Favorite All Good Product: “SPF 30 Sunstick for sure. It’s made from non-harmful ingredients. The packaging is killer for easy application.”
